The Japanese club at Gleneagle Secondary raised over $1,000 for the victims of the Kunamoto earthquake which struck in mid-April. Their efforts earned them a visit from the Japanese Consul General, Asako Okai, on June 7.
The special assembly, which was also attended by School District 43 (Coquitlam) trustees, Superintendent Patricia Gartland and Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart, had an authentic Japanese flavour which included Japanese tea being served and a Kimono fashion show, as well as a special luncheon.
