Let’s explore, learn, and create together!
Families, at HME, our Library Learning Commons is a magical place where curiosity leads the way. Wondering, exploring, discussion, ideating, testing, and imagining is encouraged during every visit.
Library Visits: A Weekly Adventure for Your Child
During weekly library visits, students will have the opportunity to explore our extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books. But that is just the beginning! Each visit is designed to be an adventure, featuring engaging read-aloud sessions, book talks, sharing circles, and exciting STEAM activities. These activities not only foster a love for reading but also allow your child to explore the world around them in fun and creative ways. We aim to make each library visit a memorable and enriching experience for your child.
- Stories and Story Walks: Students are encouraged to locate books that tickle their fancy. Students will be exposed to author studies, different genres, text types and more. We will walk through stories each week and work on our reading powers.
- Free Choice Activities: Through the year, activities will include exploration with the district STEAM Lenses, design workshops, exploration of words, and more.
- Word Work: Students will have the opportunity to build their vocabulary and learn written communication at the Word Work centre
- Build and Create/Design: Hands-on activities inspired by the books read during Library time and sparked by student imagination. Students can choose to be engaged in science, technology, engineering, art, and math projects that spark imagination and problem-solving skills.
- Stay Connected: with the world around them by exploring people, places, and things.
During LLC time inquiry-based learning is emphasized by encouraging students to ask questions, explore, and engage deeply with the subjects they are passionate about.
