Reading Link Challenge 2022 is up and running!
Reading Link Challenge is a province-wide program for students in grades 4 and 5 that promotes the "sport of reading." The program is run as a series of quiz/trivia challenges with winning teams advancing to higher levels of competition. Participating children learn about teamwork and how to read for retention.
In teams of five or six, children read and become familiar with a set of six selected books. At the first challenge level, teams within a school compete with each other answering questions about characters, plots and settings. The winning team at each school then goes on to the next challenge level at the local public library where the competition is repeated with a different set of questions. After this point, regional library systems may have an additional challenge level for winning teams from the different communities they serve. In the Lower Mainland, there is a Grand Challenge, where winning teams from different library systems come together for a competition at an event with a public audience.

Community Level Challenge April 21st, 2021
The Community Level Reading Link Challenge took place via Zoom on April 21st. The Reading Cougars competed against the winning teams from nine other elementary schools in our zone, live from the Learning Commons. Mr. Chris Miller, competition organizing librarian from the Coquitlam Public Library, had this feedback to offer the team:
"Without exception, I thought the teams represented their schools with distinction throughout the competition. They were well-behaved and respectful towards each other as well as our staff, which we really appreciated. I know that the Community Challenge quiz was more difficult than the one at the School Challenge level. At the quiz yesterday, many of the teams earned scores that placed them close to each other. Three happened to tie for second place – and move on to the tiebreak – but most of the other teams weren’t far behind."
Congratulations Reading Cougars! Thank you for all of your efforts in reading and studying the books this year!
