TRAFFIC SAFETY
​Traffic Safety for our students is very important to all of us. We have observed some traffic safety concerns and thought it would be timely to send along a few reminders regarding pick-up and drop-off at Como Lake Middle School. Families who are driving are reminded to adhere to all road safety rules and keeping speed to 30 km/h at a maximum in school zones.

We have observed some traffic safety concerns and thought it would be timely to send along a few reminders regarding pick-up and drop-off at Como Lake Middle School. Families who are driving are reminded to adhere to all road safety rules and keeping speed to 30 km/h at a maximum in school zones.

We have observed some traffic safety concerns and thought it would be timely to send along a few reminders regarding pick-up and drop-off at Como Lake Middle School. Families who are driving are reminded to adhere to all road safety rules and keeping speed to 30 km/h at a maximum in school zones.  If you could please follow up with your children and have a discussion on traffic safety, it would be greatly appreciated.  Here are a few key notes specific to Como Lake Middle School and traffic safety:

 

  • Students and families are encouraged to take active forms of transportation when possible. Please see the “Active Transportation Infographic" attached.
  • Students who walk to school or part of the way to school are reminded to please use sidewalks and the crosswalks.  When crossing crosswalks, always make sure eye contact is made with the driver.  Please see the “Safe Pedestrian Poster" attachment for more information. 
  • Students who bike or take a scooter to school can lock up their bikes and scooters on the chains in the courtyard.  Please remember that electronic bikes and electronic scooters are not to be operated by anyone under the age of 16.   
  • For pick-up and drop-off via a vehicle, vehicles must be pulled over on the side of the street or in a designated parking stall.  Stopping in the middle of the street to drop off or pick up a student is not safe.  See the “Parking Restrictions" attachment for more details on parking rules in Coquitlam.
  • Families who are driving students to school can drop-off in a number of locations:
    • On King Albert Avenue in front of the school.  Dropping off going westbound is preferred so students are dropped off on the same side as the school.
    • On King Albert Avenue just west of the school by the field.  There are a number of parking stalls you can pull into there.
    • As an alternative, families may want students to walk the last 3 to 5 minutes of their commute to the school.  There is parking available on both Winslow Avenue and Porter Street for pick-up and drop-off.
    • There is also a shared parking lot with Winslow Centre on the east side of the school.  This can be accessed off of Lemax Avenue.  Families can also pick-up and drop-off there.  Parking for more than a few minutes in this lot does require a parking pass. 

 

Hopefully, this gives all families some options for pick-up and drop-off.  Our goal is to keep all students safe so we appreciate your support as you navigate the pick-up and drop-off areas.
