National Truth and Reconciliation Week & Orange Shirt Day at Nestor Tomorrow – Friday, September 27th
Nestor Elementary has been recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Week this week with a number of learning opportunities. We've been spending time talking about the continued impact of residential schools and the truth and reconciliation process in Canada.
On Friday, we are inviting all students to wear orange shirts. Orange Shirt Day is intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters". The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
